What is Cognitively Based Compassion Training?

CBCT® is a research-based program developed at Emory University that teaches people how to cultivate compassion through reflection, meditation, and practical exercises. Unlike approaches that focus only on mindfulness, CBCT® emphasizes understanding how our thoughts and emotions shape our responses — and how we can intentionally train the mind to respond with greater clarity, kindness, and resilience.

Grounded in both ancient contemplative wisdom and modern science, CBCT® has been studied in healthcare, education, business, and community settings, showing measurable benefits for stress reduction, well-being, and social connection.
